Maudlow is a tiny, quiet place in Montana, United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a small settlement without its own local government. Maudlow is located in northern Gallatin County.

What is Maudlow?
Maudlow was once a station stop for a very important railroad. This railroad was called the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad, also known as "the Milwaukee Road." It was a huge railway line that crossed the entire country.
A Community Hub
Maudlow was a central spot for local ranchers and homesteaders. These were people who lived and worked on farms in the area. They used Maudlow as a place to gather and get supplies.
How Maudlow Got Its Name
The name "Maudlow" comes from Maud Harlow. She was a family member of R. A. Harlow, who was the president of the Montana Railroad. The first postmaster, George Dodge, decided to shorten the name to Maudlow.
Where is Maudlow Located?
Maudlow sits in a narrow valley. It is right next to a stream called Sixteen Mile Creek. This creek flows through a beautiful area known as Sixteen Mile Canyon.
A Scenic Spot
Sixteen Mile Canyon was also known as "Montana Canyon." It was considered one of the most beautiful parts of the Milwaukee Road railway line. Travelers on the train would often enjoy the amazing views here.
Why Did Maudlow Change?
Maudlow never had a very large population. Over time, fewer and fewer people lived there. By the late 1900s, only a few residents remained.
The End of the Railroad
The railroad line that ran through Maudlow was closed in 1980. This was a big change for the community. With the railroad gone, Maudlow became almost a ghost town. A ghost town is a place where most people have left.

Today, Maudlow is part of the Bozeman, MT Micropolitan Statistical Area. This means it's included in the area around the city of Bozeman, Montana.
