Maugrim is a character from the book The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis. He is a talking wolf from Narnia. Maugrim works for the White Witch as the leader of her Secret Police. His job is to find and capture anyone who goes against the Witch.
In some older American versions of the book, Maugrim was called Fenris Ulf. This name came from a giant wolf in old Norse stories. But later, the publishers changed his name back to Maugrim. This is the name used in most books today.
Maugrim is one of the few Talking Animals in Narnia who chose to help the White Witch. He supported her during the "Hundred-Year Winter." This was a long period when Narnia was always covered in snow and ice. Another character, Nikabrik, from the book Prince Caspian, said that Narnian wolves do not usually follow the great lion Aslan.
Maugrim's Role in Narnia
Maugrim is a very important character in the White Witch's army. As the Captain of her Secret Police, he helps her keep control over Narnia. He is known for being fierce and loyal to the Witch.
The White Witch's Secret Police
The Secret Police are like spies and guards for the White Witch. They make sure everyone follows her rules. They also look for anyone who might be friends with Aslan or the good characters. Maugrim leads these wolves, making him a powerful enemy.
