Mo Bradley (born around 1967) is a Canadian filmmaker, professor, and artist. They have created over 50 short films that have been shown all over the world. Bradley is known for making movies that explore ideas about identity.

Early Life and Schooling

Bradley was born and grew up in Montreal, Quebec. As a young person, they loved music and sound. Bradley even played bass guitar in a band called "Sons of the Desert."

Later, they became interested in making films. Bradley went to Concordia University to study media. After moving to Vancouver, they earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Film Production from the University of British Columbia.

A Career in Film and Teaching

Bradley's filmmaking career started when they received a grant to make a music video. This sparked their interest in film, and they went on to become a professor. They first taught film production at the University of Regina. In 2002, they became the first woman to be a director in the Saskatchewan part of the Directors Guild of Canada.

Later, Bradley moved back to British Columbia to teach at the University of Victoria. They are now a full professor there, teaching students about film and video. Bradley also helped create a special lab at the university for working on high-definition video projects.

Throughout their career, which started in 1988, Bradley has made films that challenge common ideas about gender. In 1992, while working on the TV series Road Movies, Bradley became one of the first people to talk openly about their identity on Canadian television.

Bradley has also been involved with many film groups in Canada, such as Queer City Cinema and the Independent Media Arts Alliance of Canada.

Personal Life

Bradley is queer and lives in Victoria, British Columbia.

Growing up, Bradley felt they didn't fit into the usual categories of male or female. Over the years, they have used different terms to describe their identity. Bradley's work often explores these feelings and experiences.

Since 2015, Bradley has used they/them pronouns. This is a way for people who don't identify as strictly male or female to be referred to.

Awards and Recognition

Bradley has won many awards for their films. Their web series, Freshman's Wharf, won a Leo Award in 2011. Their short film Pants on Fire won a Golden Remi Award for directing.

Their first major movie, Two 4 One, was very successful. Bradley was nominated for three Leo Awards for the film, including for Best Direction and Best Screenwriting. The actors in the movie also won awards for their performances.

Special showings of Bradley's work, called retrospectives, have been held in cities across Canada to celebrate their career.
