About Maureen Judge

Maureen Judge was born in Montreal, Quebec. She is one of eight children. As a child, she lived in different cities. These included Montreal, Quebec; Kingston, Ontario; and Chicago, Illinois. In 1967, she moved to Toronto, Ontario.

She studied science and philosophy at the University of Toronto. In 1982, she earned a Master of Arts degree in cinema studies from New York University. Maureen Judge lives in Toronto with her husband. She has two grown children.

Her Work in Film and TV

Maureen Judge has directed and produced many documentary films. She has also worked on television series and some short drama films. Some of her most famous films include My Millennial Life. This film won a Canadian Screen Award for Best Documentary Program in 2017. Another well-known film is Unveiled: The Mother Daughter Relationship. It won a Genie Award for Best Short Documentary in 1997.

She started producing television series in 2002. She created and produced a 13-episode series called Family Secrets. In 2006, she also created the Canadian poetry series Heart of a Poet.

In 2008, Judge produced the documentary film FLicKeR. This film won a special jury prize at the Hot Docs festival. It also won Best Film on International Art at a festival in Poland. FLicKeR was nominated for a Gemini Award in 2009. Her next film, Mom's Home (2010), was nominated for a Donald Brittain Award. This award is for Best Social-Political Documentary.

Her other award-winning documentaries include And We Knew How To Dance: Women and World War I. This film was produced by the National Film Board of Canada. She also made In My Parents' Basement and Living Dolls (2015).

Maureen Judge helped start CineAction Magazine in 1986. She wrote an article for its first issue. She has also taught film studies and production. She taught at York University, Humber College, and Sheridan College in Toronto.

Heart of a Poet TV Series

Heart of a Poet is a Canadian television documentary series. It first aired in April 2006. Maureen Judge and Tina Hahn created this series. Maureen Judge was also the executive producer. The show was broadcast on Bravo!. It ran for two seasons, from April 13, 2006, to November 29, 2007.

Each episode of the series focused on a different Canadian poet. It showed their lives, their writing, and their performances. The poets were introduced through parts of their poems and interviews. The series also showed their daily lives and what inspired their poetry.

Some of the poets featured in the series include George Elliott Clarke, bill bissett, Christian Bök, Marty Gervais, Lillian Allen, Shane Koyczan, Ray Hsu, and Daphne Marlatt.
