Maurice Delbez (born July 28, 1922 – died March 23, 2020) was a French film director. He was known for making movies and TV shows.

Life Story of a Director
Early Life and Education
Maurice Delbez started school at Lycée Charlemagne in Paris when he was 12 years old. His parents worked very hard to pay for his education. They even sold their family restaurant to help him.
During World War II
During World War II, France was occupied by German forces. Maurice Delbez and other students who believed in peace protested against this. He later joined the Free France forces. These were French soldiers who fought against the occupation. He managed to join them by using fake documents.
Starting in Film
After the war, Maurice Delbez went to a special film school called the Institut des hautes études cinématographiques. He met famous actors and directors there. One actor, Pierre Fresnay, helped him connect with director Maurice Cloche. Maurice Delbez worked as an assistant director for many films with Cloche. He also learned from other great directors like Jean Grémillon and Robert Bresson.
Directing His Own Films
Maurice Delbez became a director himself. One of his most famous films is On Foot, on Horse, and on Wheels, made in 1957. In 1963, he made a film called Rue des Cascades. This movie was based on a book.
He also worked a lot in television. He made many documentaries, which are factual films. These documentaries often showed on French TV channels like France 3 and France 2.
His Book and Film Restoration
In 2001, Maurice Delbez wrote a book about his life. It was called Ma vie racontée à mon chien cinéphile, which means "My life told to my movie-loving dog."
Years later, in 2017, people worked to restore his film Rue des Cascades. This means they fixed it up so it looked new again. In 2018, the M6 TV channel released the restored film on DVD. They also restored and shared other films he directed. In 2019, Rue des Cascades was shown in a special screening in Salon-de-Provence.
Maurice Delbez passed away on March 23, 2020, when he was 97 years old.
