Maurice Houdayer (born 18 July 1931 – died 1 October 2020) was a French rower. He was known for competing in major international rowing events.

Maurice's Rowing Journey

Maurice Houdayer was a talented rower from France. He competed in a special type of rowing boat called the men's eight. This boat has eight rowers, and they all work together to make the boat go fast.

European Championships Success

In 1956, Maurice and his team took part in the 1956 European Rowing Championships. This was a big competition for rowers from all over Europe. The event was held in a place called Bled, which is in Yugoslavia (now Slovenia).

Maurice and his men's eight team did very well! They won the silver medal at these championships. This means they came in second place, which is a fantastic achievement in such a competitive sport.

Competing at the Olympics

After their success at the European Championships, Maurice and his team went on to compete in the 1956 Summer Olympics. The Olympics are the biggest sports event in the world, held every four years. The 1956 Summer Olympics took place in Melbourne, Australia.

Maurice's team competed in the men's eight event. Unfortunately, they were eliminated in the first round heat. This means they didn't make it past their very first race at the Olympics. Even so, just getting to compete at the Olympics is a huge honor for any athlete.
