Maurine, Missouri facts for kids
Maurine is a small, unincorporated community located in Henry County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's usually governed by the county.
The Story of Maurine
Maurine was officially planned and marked out on a map, a process called "platting," in the year 1885. A settler who was among the first to live there named the community. He chose the name Maurine to remember his child who had passed away when they were very young.
A Community Post Office
In the same year, 1885, a post office was opened in Maurine. This was an important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years before it finally closed its doors in 1909.
