Maurizio Ganz was born on October 13, 1968. He is an Italian football coach and a former player. He was known for playing as a striker, which is a player who tries to score goals.

Playing Career: A Goal Scorer's Journey

Maurizio Ganz started his football journey at Sampdoria as a young player. He made his first professional appearance in Serie A in 1986. With Sampdoria, he won the Coppa Italia in 1988, which is a big cup competition in Italy.

Early Club Successes

After Sampdoria, Ganz played for Monza in Serie B, a lower division. He then helped Parma get promoted to Serie A in 1990. He spent two more seasons in Serie B, playing for Brescia. In the 1991–92 season, he was the top goalscorer in Serie B with 19 goals. He also helped Brescia win the league title and get promoted to Serie A.

Time at Atalanta

In 1992, Ganz joined Atalanta. He scored 14 goals in his first season in Serie A with them. He played for Atalanta for three seasons. Even though Atalanta was relegated to Serie B in his second year, he continued to play well.

Shining at Inter Milan

In 1995, Ganz moved to Inter Milan, one of Italy's biggest clubs. He played for two seasons there and was known as a great goalscorer. People even called him "he always scores!" He scored 36 goals in 68 games for Inter.

  • In his first season (1995–96), he scored 13 goals in Serie A.
  • The next season (1996–97), he helped Inter reach the final of the 1996–97 UEFA Cup, a major European competition. He was the top goalscorer in that tournament with eight goals.
  • Inter finished third in Serie A that season, and Ganz scored 11 league goals.
  • He also helped Inter reach the semi-finals of the 1996–97 Coppa Italia.

Moving to AC Milan

In December 1997, Ganz made a big move to AC Milan, Inter's local rivals. In his second season with Milan (1998–99), he helped the team win the Scudetto, which is the Italian league title. He scored important goals, including one against his old team Inter in a huge 5–0 win in the Milan Derby.

  • His third season at Milan was not as successful. He didn't play as much because Milan had many other star strikers.

Later Career and Retirement

After AC Milan, Ganz played for several other clubs.

  • He went on loan to Venezia in 2000.
  • He then played for Atalanta again and later for Fiorentina.
  • He spent two seasons with Ancona in Serie B, helping them get promoted to Serie A in 2003.
  • He also played for Modena and Lugano in Switzerland.
  • Maurizio Ganz ended his playing career in 2007 with Pro Vercelli.
  • He finished his career with an impressive total of 204 goals in 469 games.

International Appearances

Maurizio Ganz played for Italy's Under-17 team in the Under-17 World Cup in 1985. He was called up to the Italian national team twice in 1993, but he did not play in any official international matches for them.

He also played one game for Padania, an unofficial team, and scored three goals in that match.

Coaching Career

After his playing career, Maurizio Ganz became a football coach.

  • In 2014, he became the head coach of a Swiss club called Ascona.
