Mawsata, also known as the Mawsata State, was a small state in what is now Yemen. It was part of the British Aden Protectorate. This protectorate was an area controlled by Britain. Mawsata was located in the western and southwestern part of a larger region called Upper Yafa. A big mountain there is Jabal Darfan.
Mawsata was the most populated of the five small states, called sheikhdoms, in Upper Yafa. Its last ruler was removed from power in 1967. This happened when the People's Republic of South Yemen was formed. Today, this area is part of the country of Yemen.
History of Mawsata
The State of Mawsata was created in the year 1780. Over time, the ruling family had some disagreements. Because of these family issues, the ruling family split into two different branches in 1860.
Around 1904, Mawsata became a British protectorate. This meant that Britain would protect the state, but it still had its own local rulers. Mawsata was part of the Protectorate of South Arabia until 1967. In 1967, the protectorate was ended, and Mawsata became part of a new country.
