Max Robert Engman (born September 27, 1945 – died March 19, 2020) was a famous Finnish historian and translator. He was born in Helsinki, the capital city of Finland.

Max Engman: A Life in History

Max Engman worked at the Finnish national archives in Helsinki. He was there from 1968 to 1973. Later, in 1985, he became a professor of general history. This important role was at Åbo Akademi, a university in Finland.

What Did Max Engman Study?

Max Engman's main work focused on the history of Finland and Russia. He also studied the history of large European empires. He helped us understand how these big countries and their relationships changed over time.

Working with History Journals

Max Engman was also very involved with a history magazine. It was called Historisk Tidskrift för Finland. He worked as a subeditor for the journal from 1971 to 1982. After that, he became the editor-in-chief. He held this top position from 1982 until 2000.

Max Engman passed away on March 19, 2020, in Helsinki. He was 74 years old.
