Gnaly Albert Maxwel Cornet (born on September 27, 1996) is a professional footballer. He comes from the Ivory Coast. Maxwel plays as a left winger or a full-back. Currently, he plays for the Italian club Genoa. He is on loan there from West Ham United. He also plays for the Ivory Coast national team. Before this, he played for clubs in France and England. These clubs include Metz, Lyon, and Burnley.

Club Career Highlights
Starting at Metz
Maxwel Cornet began his football journey at Metz. He was part of their youth training program. When he was almost 16 years old, he played his first game for Metz. This was in the third-highest league in France. He came into the game as a substitute in a big 6–3 win. Later, he made his debut in Ligue 2, which is the second-highest league.
Playing for Lyon
In January 2015, Cornet joined Ligue 1 club Lyon. Ligue 1 is the top football league in France. He played his first game for Lyon against his old team, Metz. He scored his first goal for Lyon in October 2015. It was in a 3–0 win against Toulouse.
In 2020, Cornet started playing as a left-back. This was a new position for him. He did very well there and became a regular starter. On August 15, 2020, he scored a key goal against Manchester City. This happened in the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. Lyon won that game 3–1 and moved on to the semi-finals.
Time at Burnley
On August 29, 2021, Cornet moved to England. He signed with Premier League club Burnley. The Premier League is the top football league in England. He made his first appearance for Burnley as a substitute in September. He scored his first goal for them on September 25. Even though Burnley was relegated (moved down to a lower league) that season, Cornet was their top scorer. He scored nine goals in 26 games.
Joining West Ham United
On August 5, 2022, Cornet joined West Ham United. He signed a five-year contract with the club. He played his first game for West Ham on August 14, 2022. He also played in seven games during West Ham's successful journey in the 2022–23 UEFA Europa Conference League. West Ham won the final against Fiorentina. Cornet was on the bench but did not play in the final match.
Loan Spells: Southampton and Genoa
On August 30, 2024, Cornet went on loan to Southampton. They are a newly promoted Premier League club. He played his first game for them on September 14. In January 2025, his loan at Southampton ended. On the same day, he joined Genoa in Italy on loan for the rest of the 2024–25 season.
International Career
Maxwel Cornet was born in the Ivory Coast. When he was three years old, his family moved to France. He played for various French youth national teams. However, in 2017, he decided to play for the Ivory Coast senior team. He made his first appearance for Ivory Coast on June 4, 2017.
Personal Life
Maxwel Cornet has three children. When he was growing up, his football hero was Didier Drogba. Drogba was also from Ivory Coast and moved to France. Outside of football, Maxwel enjoys playing tennis.
