Gnaly Albert Maxwel Cornet, born on September 27, 1996, is a professional footballer from Ivory Coast. He plays as a left winger or a full-back. Maxwel currently plays for the English club West Ham United. He also represents his home country, the Ivory Coast national team. Before joining West Ham, he played for several clubs in France, including Metz and Lyon, and also for Burnley in England.

Club Career Highlights
Starting at Metz
Maxwel Cornet began his football journey at Metz as a young player. He made his first team debut when he was almost 16 years old. This was in a French third-tier league game on August 31, 2012. Maxwel came on as a substitute in the 85th minute. Metz won that game 6–3. He later played his first game in Ligue 2, which is the second-highest league in France, on August 2, 2013.
Time with Lyon
On January 16, 2015, Cornet joined Lyon, a club in Ligue 1, France's top football league. He played his first game for Lyon against his old club, Metz, on January 25, 2015. He scored his first goal for Lyon on October 23, 2015, helping his team win 3–0 against Toulouse.
In January 2020, Lyon's coach tried Maxwel in a new position: left-back. He played very well there, even though it wasn't his usual role. He became the team's main left-back for the rest of that season. On August 15, 2020, Cornet scored an important goal against Manchester City in the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. Lyon won that match 3–1 and moved on to the semi-finals.
Moving to Burnley
On August 29, 2021, Maxwel Cornet signed with Premier League club Burnley. He joined them on a five-year deal. He made his debut for Burnley on September 18, coming on as a substitute in a game against Arsenal. Cornet scored his first goal for Burnley on September 25 in a 2–2 draw against Leicester City. Even though Burnley was relegated that season, Maxwel was their top scorer. He scored nine goals in 26 games.
Playing for West Ham United
On August 5, 2022, Cornet joined West Ham United. He signed a five-year contract with an option for an extra year. He played his first game for West Ham on August 14, 2022, in a match against Nottingham Forest. Maxwel also played in seven games during West Ham's successful 2022–23 UEFA Europa Conference League journey. West Ham won the final against Fiorentina, making them champions of the tournament.
Loan Spells
On August 30, 2024, Cornet went on loan to Southampton, a club that had just been promoted to the Premier League. He played his first game for them on September 14. On January 20, 2025, he returned from his loan at Southampton. On the same day, Cornet joined Genoa in Italy on loan for the rest of the 2024–25 season.
International Career
Maxwel Cornet was born in Ivory Coast. When he was three years old, his family moved to northern France. He played for various French youth national teams. However, on April 5, 2017, he decided to play for the Ivory Coast national team. He made his first senior appearance for Ivory Coast on June 4, 2017, in a friendly match against the Netherlands.
Personal Life
Maxwel Cornet has three children. When he was growing up, he looked up to Didier Drogba. This was because Drogba was also from Ivory Coast and moved to France. Outside of playing football, Maxwel enjoys playing tennis.
