May Hill began as a small settlement. It started when a country store opened there. A country store was a very important place long ago. People could buy supplies and meet their neighbors.
Later, in 1856, a post office was opened in May Hill. Post offices were vital for sending and receiving letters and packages. This helped people stay connected. The May Hill post office served the community for many years. It finally closed in 1905.
