About Maya Goded
Maya Goded was born in 1967 in Mexico City. In 1993, she worked as an assistant to the well-known Mexican photographer Graciela Iturbide. This experience helped her learn a lot about photography.
Her first big project was in 1994, called Tierra Negra (which means Black Earth). She spent three years working on this project. It is a collection of powerful images of Afro-Mexican people.
Maya Goded often explores the lives of women in Mexican society. She looks at how they are seen in traditional roles, like motherhood. She also investigates people living in difficult conditions. Her photographs often include a name and a short story about the person shown.
