Mayesburg, Missouri facts for kids
Mayesburg is a small place in Bates County, Missouri, in the United States. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and buildings, but it doesn't have its own official city government or mayor like a big town would.
How Mayesburg Started
The community of Mayesburg began in 1878. It was most likely named after J. M. Mayes, who was a local merchant, meaning he owned a store in the area.
A post office, which is where people send and receive mail, was opened in Mayesburg in 1879. This post office helped the people living there for many years. However, it eventually closed down in 1902.
