Mayor Square is a modern public space in the exciting Docklands area of Dublin, Ireland. It's a busy spot that connects people to different parts of the city. Since December 2009, it has been easy to reach thanks to the Luas tram system.

Discovering Mayor Square

Mayor Square is a central part of the Dublin Docklands, a really modern and redeveloped area of Dublin. This area used to be a busy port, but it has been transformed into a vibrant new part of the city. It now features many offices, homes, and public spaces like Mayor Square. The square itself is named after Mayor Street, a main road nearby. It was designed to be a key meeting point for people working and living in the Docklands.

Getting Around: How to Reach Mayor Square

One of the best ways to get to Mayor Square is by using the Luas tram system. The Red Line tram stops right at Mayor Square. This tram line connects the square to places like Tallaght or Saggart in one direction. In the other direction, it goes towards Connolly Station and then branches off to The Point (3Arena). The Luas Red Line extension to the Docklands opened on December 9, 2009.

If you prefer buses, Dublin Bus also serves the area. Several bus routes stop nearby on North Wall Quay. These include services like the 33d, 33x, 53a, 90, 142, and 151. There's also the 757 Airlink service from Guild Street, which can take you directly to Dublin Airport. This makes Mayor Square very easy to access from many parts of Dublin and beyond.

Important Buildings and What to See

Mayor Square is home to the National College of Ireland (NCI). This is a large college where many students come to learn and study different subjects. Having the NCI here makes Mayor Square a lively place, especially during term time. The square often feels energetic with students and people working in the surrounding offices. It's a great example of how old industrial areas can be turned into modern, useful spaces for everyone.
