What is the Maze of Games?
The Maze of Games is a special kind of game called a puzzlehunt. In a puzzlehunt, you solve many different puzzles. These puzzles lead you from one clue to the next. It's like a treasure hunt, but with brain teasers!
How Do You Play?
Players follow a path through the convention center. They find "puzzle placards," which are like signs with puzzles on them. Solving one puzzle helps you find the next one.
As you solve individual puzzles, you also work on "meta-puzzles." These are bigger puzzles that connect all the smaller ones. Solving the meta-puzzles helps you find the final answer to the entire Maze of Games. It's a great way to test your thinking skills!
Who Created the Maze of Games?
The Maze of Games was created by talented game designers. These designers are Mark Gottlieb, Mike Selinker, and Teeuwynn Woodruff. They work together to create new and exciting puzzles each year.
History of the Maze
The Maze of Games first ran at the Origins convention. This was from 1995 to 2001. After that, it moved to the Gen Con convention.
Different Names Over Time
At Gen Con, the event had different names for a few years:
- Gen Con Time Warp (2002–2003)
- Gen Con Monster Hunt (2004)
- Gen Con Doomsday Rally (2005)
The Doomsday Rally in 2005 was extra special. It was connected to Hasbro's famous board game, Risk. In 2004, the Maze of Games returned to Origins. That was the first year it happened at both conventions at the same time!
