The brand's name comes from the saying "the real McCoy", which means something is genuine or authentic. Their old slogan was "The Real McCoy's – Accept No Imitations." Today, they use "Don't Deny the Beast" in their adverts. McCoy's is a very popular crisp brand. About 5 million packets are eaten every week, and many homes in the UK buy them.
McCoy's has also tried new ideas. In 2013, they changed their crisp bags. The new bags open along the longer side. This makes it easier for people with bigger hands to reach the crisps inside. Since 2022, McCoy's often brings out new flavours for a short time.
