What's the Story of McCune?
McCune has been known by a few different names over the years. People sometimes called it "McCunes" or "McCune Station." A post office, which is where people send and receive mail, was opened in McCune Station in 1879. It stayed open for many years, until 1920. The community was named after two important early settlers, John and William McCune. They were "pioneers," meaning they were among the first people to settle and build homes in this area.
Where is McCune Located?
McCune is found in Pike County, Missouri. It's right on a road called Missouri Route U. If you travel a little west from where Route U meets a bigger road called US Route 61, you'll find McCune. A small stream called Peno Creek flows nearby, just a short distance to the west. Another town, Bowling Green, is about six miles away to the southeast, also along Route 61.
