McCurry, Missouri facts for kids
McCurry is a small, undeveloped area in Gentry County, Missouri, in the United States. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
McCurry is located near the Grand River, which flows south of the area. You can find it along Missouri Route H. Nearby places include Darlington to the east and Carmack to the north.
History
McCurry was officially planned and mapped out in 1879. This process, called "platting," means that the layout of streets and lots was recorded. The community was named after William McCurry, who was one of the first people to settle there.
A post office was opened in McCurry in 1881. Back then, post offices were very important for sending and receiving letters and packages. This post office served the community for about 20 years before it closed in 1901.
