McGrawville (also known as New Hudson) was once a small community in Allegany County, New York, United States. A hamlet is a tiny settlement, often smaller than a village, and usually doesn't have its own local government.
History of McGrawville
This little community got its name from a local landowner, Mr. McGraw. A historian says McGrawville started growing around a saw mill. A saw mill is a place where logs are cut into lumber.
At one time, McGrawville had a store, a cheese factory, and a blacksmith shop. A blacksmith shop is where a person called a blacksmith makes or repairs things out of metal. There were also about ten to twelve homes. Some of these were tenement houses, which were simple homes for workers on a farm that raised animals. There was also a boarding house, a place where people could pay to stay and eat.
McGrawville was also home to a U.S. Post Office for over 50 years. It operated from 1849 until around 1900, helping people send and receive mail.
