The McGregor River is a beautiful river in British Columbia, Canada. It flows into the mighty Fraser River, which is one of the longest rivers in British Columbia.

River's Name: A Brave Story

The McGregor River got its name from a very special person. His name was Captain James Herrick McGregor. He was a Provincial Land Surveyor. This means he was an expert who measured and mapped land for the government.

Captain McGregor was also a brave soldier. He fought in a big war in 1915 and sadly passed away. The river was named to remember his courage and contributions.

Before it was called the McGregor River, people knew it as the Big Salmon River. Captain McGregor was also the first president of the BC Land Surveyors. He was also president of the Union Club in Victoria and even a poet!

River's Journey

The McGregor River starts its journey in a quiet place called Wishaw Lake. This lake is hidden away in Kakwa Provincial Park and Protected Area.

From Wishaw Lake, the river flows mostly towards the west and northwest. It travels through the land until it finally meets the Fraser River. This meeting point is northeast of a city called Prince George.
