History of McLean

How McLean Got Its Name

The community of McLean was named after a man named James McLean. He was a landowner in the area who played an important role in the community's early days. When the railroad was being built, James McLean allowed the company to build tracks on his land. In return for his permission, the railroad agreed to name the community after him. This was a common way for places to get their names back then, often honoring important local figures or families.

Early Days and the Post Office

McLean had a post office that opened in 1888. A post office is a place where people can send and receive mail, buy stamps, and sometimes access other services. Having a post office was a big deal for a small community because it connected them to the outside world and made communication much easier. This post office served the people of McLean for many years, but it eventually closed down in 1928.

Population in 1910

In 1910, the community of McLean had 51 inhabitants. This means that 51 people lived there at that time. Knowing the population helps us understand how small or large a community was during different periods in history.
