McMenamins is a company that owns many fun places in Oregon and Washington. It is run by a family. They have restaurants that make their own beer, called brewpubs. They also have places for music, historic hotels, and movie theaters where you can eat.

Many of their locations are in old, cool buildings that they have fixed up. At least nine of these buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are very important old buildings. McMenamins is also one of the 50 biggest craft breweries in the United States. A craft brewery makes smaller amounts of special beers.

The Story of McMenamins

McMenamins was started by two brothers, Mike and Brian McMenamin. They grew up in Portland, Oregon. Their story began in 1974 when they opened a place called Produce Row Café.

First Brewpub and Theater

In 1985, McMenamins opened Oregon's very first brewpub. This was in the Hillsdale area of Southwest Portland. A brewpub is a restaurant that makes its own beer right there.

Then, in 1987, they opened Oregon's first theater pub. This was the Mission Theater & Pub. It's a place where you can watch movies and also enjoy food and drinks.

Expanding to Hotels and Resorts

The company started to open more hotels and resorts in 1990. They turned a very large old farm into a cool resort. This farm was 74 acres big and is now called McMenamins Edgefield.

By 1997, selling food became a very big part of their business. It made up more than half of all their sales. In April 2018, McMenamins opened its 55th location. They keep finding new ways to create fun and interesting places for people to visit.
