Mechanicsburg is a small, unincorporated community located in Boone County, Indiana, in the United States. An unincorporated community means it's a settlement that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Washington Township.
History of Mechanicsburg
Mechanicsburg was first established in 1835. The people who settled there early on were often skilled workers. Many of them were mechanics, meaning they were good at building or repairing things. This is how the community got its name, "Mechanicsburg."

Mechanicsburg is located at a specific spot on Earth: 40°09′35″N 86°28′52″W / 40.15972°N 86.48111°W. This means it's at 40 degrees, 9 minutes, 35 seconds North latitude and 86 degrees, 28 minutes, 52 seconds West longitude.
The community is built around Sugar Creek. This is where Indiana State Road 39 crosses the stream. Most of the homes and the only church in Mechanicsburg are located south of Sugar Creek. There used to be another bridge over Sugar Creek for Burg Street. However, this second bridge was taken down sometime between 1980 and 2000.
Culture and Entertainment
Mechanicsburg is home to something special: one of the few drive-in theaters that are still open and working today. This drive-in theater is called Mel's Drive-in. It used to be known as the Frankfort-Lebanon Drive-in Theater. Drive-in theaters are places where you can watch movies from inside your car.
