Mechanicsville was once a small community, or a "census-designated place" (CDP), in Pennsylvania, United States. It was located in Montour County, Pennsylvania. In 2000, about 3,099 people lived there. However, by 2010, Mechanicsville was no longer listed as a separate community. It was part of a larger area called the Bloomsburg-Berwick micropolitan area.

History

Mechanicsville began as a place where workers, often called "mechanics," lived and worked. A trolley line, which is like a streetcar, used to run through the community. This was called the Bloomsburg Trolley Line. In 1911, a silk mill was built in Mechanicsville. A silk mill is a factory where silk fabric is made.

Geography

Mechanicsville is located at specific coordinates: 40.966240 degrees North and -76.590781 degrees West. The community covered an area of about 2.0 square miles (5.3 square kilometers). All of this area was land. The land in Mechanicsville mostly had gentle, rolling hills. Most of the land in Mechanicsville was used for homes and neighborhoods.

People of Mechanicsville

In 2000, there were 3,099 people living in Mechanicsville. These people lived in 1,172 households, and 732 of these were families. The community had about 1,236 housing units. Most of the people living there were White (95.03%). There were also smaller groups of African American, Native American, and Asian people. About 1.03% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.

Many different types of households lived in Mechanicsville. About 27.6% of households had children under 18 living with them. Many households were married couples living together (51.2%).
