Medellín de Bravo, once known as Tecamachales, is a town in the Mexican state of Veracruz. It is the main town of the Medellín municipality. This town is also part of the larger Veracruz Metropolitan Area.

A Look Back: History of Medellín
Early Days: Tecamachales
Before Europeans arrived, this area was known as Tecamachales. This name comes from an ancient language.
Founding the Town
After a famous battle in 1520 called La Noche Triste (The Sad Night), Hernán Cortés gave an order. He told Gonzalo de Sandoval to establish a new town. This new town was named Medellín.
The First Church
In 1529, Don Juan de Zumárraga, who was the bishop of Mexico, visited the town. He came for the opening of the local church. This church, named San Miguel Arcángel (Saint Michael the Archangel), was one of the very first churches built in New Spain (the name for Mexico during Spanish rule).

Honoring Saint Michael
Every September, the people of Medellín de Bravo hold special celebrations. These events honor Archangel Michael, who is the patron saint of the town.
