Medellín is a small village in Spain. It is located in the province of Badajoz, within the Extremadura region. This village is famous for a few important reasons.

It is the birthplace of Hernán Cortés, a well-known explorer, who was born here in 1485. Medellín was also the site of an important battle during the Peninsular War. Many other places around the world, like a big city in Colombia also called Medellín, and towns in Mexico, Argentina, and the Philippines, were named after this small Spanish village!

Long, long ago, a Roman general named Quintus Caecilius Metellus Pius founded Medellín. He used it as a military base. The Romans called it Metellinum.
