The Story of Meeker's Name
Long ago, Meeker had a different name: Cochranton. It was named after Colonel William Cochran, who first owned the land where the community is now. A post office opened in Cochranton in 1829. Later, in 1908, the name changed to Meeker. The post office eventually closed in 1943. The name Meeker was chosen to honor a person named Mr. Meeker. He was involved with a local railroad project as its treasurer.
