Megan Blunk was born on September 12, 1989. She is an American wheelchair basketball player. Megan plays for the United States women's national wheelchair basketball team. She won a gold medal for Team USA at the 2016 Summer Paralympics.
Early Life and Challenges
Megan Blunk was born in Tacoma, Washington. Her parents are Wendy Ricketts and David Blunk. She finished Peninsula High School in 2008. After high school, Megan became paralyzed from the waist down.
Even with this challenge, Megan decided to play wheelchair basketball. She joined the women's wheelchair basketball team at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. During a summer break from college, Megan also tried para-canoeing. She practiced at the Gig Harbor Canoe and Kayak Club.
Becoming a Gold Medalist
In 2013, Megan competed in para-canoeing. She won two silver medals at the ParaCanoe World Championships. But Megan decided to focus on wheelchair basketball.
She joined the 2015 United States women's national wheelchair basketball team. With her team, Megan competed in the 2015 Parapan American Games. Her team won a gold medal there. Their coach was Stephanie Wheeler.
Megan continued to play basketball. She helped Team USA win a gold medal at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. They beat Germany 62–45 in the final game. In 2018, Megan was also in a famous Nike commercial. This commercial featured former NFL player Colin Kaepernick.
