Who is Meggie Folchart?

Meggie is described as a tall and slim girl. She has bright, smooth blonde hair and blue eyes. People say she looks a lot like her mother, Resa. Meggie usually wears casual clothes, like jeans and sweaters. She is a very relaxed person.

Meggie absolutely loves reading books. She especially enjoys stories with happy endings. Books are like her closest friends. She also has a special talent, just like her father. She can read characters and objects right out of books! This means they become real in her world. Meggie is a very brave girl, but she can also be quite stubborn sometimes. She gave her father the nickname "Mo" and always calls him that.

Meggie's Adventures

Meggie goes on many thrilling adventures throughout the Inkheart series.

In Inkheart

In the first book, Inkheart, Meggie discovers a big secret. Her father, Mo, has a magical gift. He can bring characters from books to life just by reading aloud. Because of this, a dangerous man named Capricorn is chasing him. Meggie gets captured by Capricorn. Mo comes to save her.

Together, Meggie and Mo team up with many interesting characters. These include her great-aunt Elinor and a fire-eater named Dustfinger. They also meet Farid, a boy who was read out of the book Arabian Nights. Fenoglio, the writer of Inkheart, also joins them. With a horned marten named Gwin, they try to defeat Capricorn and his evil group. Meggie learns that she also has her father's special reading gift. She is forced to read for Capricorn, but Mo helps her defeat him.

In Inkspell

In the second book, Inkspell, Meggie and Farid jump into the book Inkheart itself! They go on a mission to save Mo from being executed. During this time, Meggie and Farid start to have romantic feelings for each other.

In Inkdeath

In the third book, Inkdeath, Meggie follows a group of traveling performers. They are led by a character called the Black Prince. Her romantic relationship with Farid becomes difficult. Meggie feels Farid has let her down. He is too busy serving another character named Orpheus. He also ignores her when Dustfinger returns.

Meggie joins her father, Mo (who is also known as Bluejay), inside Ombra Castle. She starts a new relationship with a boy named Doria. She later falls in love with him. Meggie helps the traveling performers fight off an attack. In the end, she chooses to stay with Doria instead of traveling with Farid. She realizes her heart beats stronger for Doria. They later get married.

Meggie's Family and Powers

Meggie's father, Mortimer Folchart, has the amazing ability to read characters and creatures out of books. This is the same power Meggie discovers she has. Mo, also called Bluejay or Silvertongue, accidentally read his wife, Resa, into the book Inkheart many years ago. Since then, he has tried to read her back out.

When someone or something goes into the book, something else must come out. This is how Capricorn, Basta, Dustfinger, and a marten came out of Inkheart. Mo believes that their two cats, who were sitting on Resa's lap, took the place of Basta and Dustfinger. A fly might have taken the marten's place. This is how the magical story of Inkheart and its mysteries began in that enchanted land.
