Mei-Chi Shaw was born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1955. She loved math from a young age. In 1977, she earned her first degree in mathematics. This was from the National Taiwan University.

After that, Shaw moved to the United States. She went to Princeton University. There, she earned her Ph.D. in 1981. Her teacher and mentor was a famous mathematician named Joseph Kohn.

Career Journey

After finishing her Ph.D., Dr. Shaw worked at Purdue University. This was a special research position. During this time, she also got married to Hsueh-Chia Chang.

In 1983, Dr. Shaw started teaching at Texas A&M University. She then moved to the University of Houston in 1986. A year later, in 1987, she joined the University of Notre Dame.
