Mei-Chi Shaw (born in 1955) is a brilliant mathematician from Taiwan and the United States. She is a professor of mathematics at the University of Notre Dame. Dr. Shaw's research focuses on special math problems called partial differential equations.

Mei-Chi Shaw's Life and Career

Mei-Chi Shaw was born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1955. She loved math from a young age. She earned her first degree in mathematics from National Taiwan University in 1977.

Her Path to a PhD

Just four years later, in 1981, Dr. Shaw earned her PhD from Princeton University. She worked with a famous mathematician named Joseph Kohn. After her PhD, she continued her research at Purdue University. During this time, she married her husband, Hsueh-Chia Chang.

Teaching and Research

In 1983, Dr. Shaw started teaching at Texas A&M University. She then moved to the University of Houston in 1986. Finally, in 1987, she joined the University of Notre Dame. She started as an associate professor and later became a full professor.

Dr. Shaw has received important awards for her work in mathematics.

Top Math Honors

In 2012, she became a fellow of the American Mathematical Society. This is a special honor for mathematicians. In 2019, she was awarded the Stefan Bergman Prize. This prize recognizes outstanding work in her field of math.
