What's the Story?
The show is about a kind old carpenter named Meister Eder. One day, he meets a special little creature called Pumuckl. Pumuckl is a kobold, and he's usually invisible. But if a kobold gets stuck to something made by a human, they become visible to that human. This is what happens to Pumuckl and Meister Eder!
Pumuckl is a very playful and sometimes clumsy kobold. He loves to cause mischief, but he's also very loyal to Meister Eder. Only Eder can see Pumuckl, because Pumuckl becomes invisible again when other people come near. Pumuckl ends up living in Eder's carpentry workshop. They form a very special, father-like friendship, sharing many funny and heartwarming moments.
Behind the Scenes
This beloved series first aired in the 1980s and quickly became a favorite for many families.
How the Show Started
- The first season of Meister Eder und sein Pumuckl was shown in 1982 and 1983. It had 26 episodes, each about half an hour long.
- It was first broadcast on Bavarian Television (Bayerischer Rundfunk) and then on First German Television (Erstes Deutsches Fernsehen).
- Between the first and second seasons, the director, Ulrich König, also created another character called Hatschipuh. Hatschipuh looked a bit like Pumuckl but had green hair instead of red.
Second Season and Changes
- A second season followed in 1988 and 1989, adding another 26 brand new episodes.
- There were some small changes in the second season. For example, Eder's workshop looked different from the outside, and Pumuckl would playfully throw the episode titles into the air!
- The catchy theme song for the show was partly created by the famous German musician Howard Carpendale.
- The series has been shown many times since it first aired, proving how popular it remains.
Famous Faces in the Show
Many well-known German actors appeared in the series. Some, like Willy Harlander, Erni Singerl, and Toni Berger, had roles that appeared in many episodes. Other famous actors, such as Iris Berben and Karl Dall, made special guest appearances for just one episode.
Making Pumuckl Come Alive
- The show was directed by Ulrich König.
- The amazing animation for Pumuckl was done by the Hungarian Pannonia Film Studio. They made Pumuckl look like he was really there with Meister Eder.
Where They Filmed It
- The main setting for the show was Meister Eder's workshop. This workshop was actually built inside a building in Munich, Germany.
- The building where the workshop was filmed has since been taken down.
- The outdoor shots of the workshop were filmed on a different street nearby. This was because that street had less traffic, making it easier to film.
- Other locations, like a pub and a toy store, were also used for filming in different parts of Munich.
