Karl Bernhard Dall was a famous German comedian, singer, and TV presenter. He was born on February 1, 1941, and passed away on November 23, 2020. He had a special eye that looked a bit "droopy." This was because he was born with a condition called ptosis, which means his eyelid didn't open all the way.

About Karl Dall's Life

His Family and Early Life

Karl Dall was born in a town called Emden in Germany. His father was a school principal, and his mother was a teacher.

In 1971, Karl Dall married his wife, Barbara. They had one daughter named Janina. She grew up to become a stuntwoman and works in Canada. Karl also had two sisters and one brother. He lived in a part of Hamburg called Eppendorf.

Starting His Career

Karl Dall finished school after the 10th grade. Then, he learned a trade and became a typesetter. This job involved arranging text for printing in a print shop in the town of Leer.

In 1967, Karl Dall helped start a comedy group called Insterburg & Co. [de]. He was part of this group until it stopped performing in the 1970s. He also helped create a TV show called Musikladen for a TV station called Radio Bremen. This was the start of his long career in television.

Karl Dall on TV

From 1983 to 1990, Karl Dall was a regular on a popular hidden camera comedy show called Verstehen Sie Spaß?. On the show, he would play funny characters, like a messy film presenter or someone who made prank calls.

He also had his own comedy show on Radio Luxemburg. Later, he was one of the first TV presenters for the TV channel RTLplus. There, he hosted his own talk show called Dall-As from 1985 to 1991. The show was known for Karl Dall trying to surprise and tease his guests. In 1992, he moved the show to another channel, Sat.1, and it was renamed Jux und Dallerei.

From 1991 to 1993, Karl Dall hosted a game show called Koffer Hoffer on Tele 5. In this show, people could bid on lost luggage that couldn't be returned to its owners. He later joined the first cast of the comedy show 7 Tage, 7 Köpfe. However, Karl Dall was very spontaneous, and he left the show after a few years because he had different ideas from Rudi Carrell, who liked to plan everything very carefully.

In 2006, Karl Dall wrote a book about his life called Auge zu und durch.

His Final Days

On October 23, 2020, just a month before he passed away, Karl Dall was getting ready to star in a play called WIN=WIN. This play was about social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
