Singing at Eurovision
Rudi Carrell represented the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest 1960. This is a big music competition where countries compete with songs. He sang a song called "Wat een geluk" which means "What luck."
He finished 12th out of 13 countries in the contest. He only received two points for his performance. Later, in 1987, he also helped by providing commentary for the Eurovision Contest on Dutch radio.

Rudi Carrell was most famous for his TV show, the Rudi Carrell Show. It started in the Netherlands and then became a huge hit in Germany. The show was popular from the 1960s all the way to the 1990s.

A Sketch That Caused Problems
In 1987, Rudi Carrell created a comedy sketch that caused a big problem between Germany and Iran. In the sketch, veiled women threw their underwear at someone dressed like Iran's leader, Ayatollah Khomeini.
The Iranian government was very upset by this joke. They reacted by sending two German diplomats out of their country. They also permanently closed the Goethe Institute in Tehran, which was a German cultural center.
His Final Years
In November 2005, Rudi Carrell shared some sad news. He told a magazine called Bunte that he was sick with lung cancer.
Rudi Carrell passed away on July 7, 2006, in Bremen, Germany. He was 71 years old.
