Mel Carter (born April 22, 1939) is an American soul and pop singer and actor. He is most famous for his 1965 song "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me", which sold over a million copies!

Mel Carter was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. When he was 16 years old, he started learning to sing. His teacher was a well-known singer named Little Jimmy Scott.

In the early 1960s, Mel began recording music. His first popular song was "When a Boy Falls in Love" in 1963. He was 24 at the time. This song was partly written by the famous singer Sam Cooke.

His Biggest Hit Songs

Mel Carter became very popular in the mid-1960s. He was especially good at singing slow, romantic pop songs called ballads. His most successful song was "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me". This song reached number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1965.

This song was a huge hit! It sold more than one million copies. Because of this, it earned a special award called a gold disc. Over the next year, he had a few more songs that made it into the Top 40. These included "Band of Gold" and "All of a Sudden My Heart Sings".

Mel Carter also appeared on television. He was part of a PBS special called Doo Wop 51 in 2001. On this show, he sang his hit song "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me".
