Melvin Sanders' Basketball Journey
Melvin Sanders went to Oklahoma State University. He played basketball as a shooting guard and small forward. These are positions where players score points and help defend.
Early Professional Teams
After college, Melvin played for several teams. He played for Varese in Italy and Telindus Oostende in Belgium. He also played for the Dakota Wizards in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). In 2005, he was recognized for his skills. He was named to the All-CBA Second Team. He also made the All-Defensive Team, showing he was great at stopping opponents.
Playing in the NBA
During the 2005-2006 NBA season, Melvin Sanders got a chance to play for the San Antonio Spurs. He signed several short contracts with them. On March 26, 2006, the Spurs signed him for the rest of the season. This was a big step in his career.
International Career
After his time with the Spurs, Melvin played for many teams around the world.
Playing in France
On January 9, 2007, he joined Pau-Orthez in the French League. He played well in the Euroleague, scoring about 10.5 points per game. He also helped his team win the French Cup in 2007.
Time in Greece and Spain
Later in 2007, Sanders signed with Panellinios in Greece. However, he had limited playing time due to an injury. In December 2007, he moved to Unicaja Málaga in Spain. On July 10, 2008, he signed with Kalise Gran Canaria, another Spanish team, where he played until 2010.
Other Teams and Retirement
Melvin continued his career by playing for various teams. In September 2010, he joined BC Minsk-2006. In 2011, he played for Menorca Bàsquet and then Hacettepe Üniversitesi in Turkey.
In August 2012, he signed with Basket Barcellona in Italy. In March 2013, he joined Pınar Karşıyaka for the rest of that season. His last team was CB Valladolid in Spain, which he joined in December 2013. He left the team in January 2014 due to issues with his team. Melvin Sanders retired from professional basketball in 2014.
