Mentor, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Mentor is a small place in the southern part of Greene County, Missouri. It's called an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government, like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

Mentor is located southeast of a bigger city called Springfield. You can find it south of U.S. Route 60 and west of Missouri Route NN. It's also just about a mile north of the line that separates Greene County from Christian County.

History of Mentor

People first started to settle, or build homes and live, in the Mentor area in the 1880s. This was a time when many new communities were forming across the United States.

A special building called a post office was opened in Mentor. A post office is where people send and receive letters and packages. The Mentor post office was open from 1896 until 1906. It helped connect the people living in Mentor with the rest of the world.
