Her Political Career
Mercedes Alonso has held several important roles in local and regional government. Since 1991, she has served as a councilor for the city of Elche. A councilor is like a local representative who helps make decisions for the city.
From 1995 to 1999, she was a provincial deputy for Alicante. In this role, she focused on issues related to women and youth. She also served as the vice-president of the Diputación Provincial de Alicante, which is like a regional government body.
