Mercedes Odina (born October 11, 1959) is a Spanish journalist, author, and film director. She also works as a culture manager, helping to organize and promote cultural events. She is known for her work in television, especially for her documentaries and investigative reports.

Working as a Journalist
Mercedes Odina studied Communication at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. She started her career in radio before joining Televisión Española (TVE) in 1985. Soon after, she became part of the team for Informe Semanal, a well-known news program.
In 1989, Mercedes began her first big film project. She wrote and directed a documentary series called Los años vividos (The Years We Lived). This series had ten one-hour episodes. It looked back at the 20th century in Spain by talking to 250 important Spanish people. In 1992, this program won the Premios Ondas International Television Award, which is a very important award.
In 1991, she became the director of Dossier 21 at TVE. This was a program about investigative journalism. It featured ten documentaries that explored current events and recent history. Some of her documentaries, like Objective: Kill Franco, were shown on TV channels in other countries. They were also featured at international film festivals. In 1995, Mercedes moved to New York City. There, she worked as a foreign correspondent for TVE, reporting on news from the United States.
In 1997, she published her first book, America Sociedad Anonima. Until 2005, she taught Communication at the University Ramon Llull in Barcelona. She also continued writing and working with different radio stations, TV channels, and newspapers. In April 2005, she was put in charge of Communication, Marketing, and Promotion for Expo 2008. From 2008 to 2009, she led the Culture department at Canning House in London. This organization focuses on Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian culture.
