History of the Park

Meshanticut State Park was given to the Metropolitan Parks Commission of Cranston in 1910. The person who gifted it was John Dean. Before this, the land had been part of the Dean family's large property since the 1870s. The Dean family owned this part of Cranston, west of Garden City, for many years.

Cranston High School West

Cranston High School West (CHSW) is located in the Meshanticut area. This high school also includes the Cranston Area Career and Technical Center (CACTC). This center helps students learn special skills for different jobs and careers.
