Metin Göktepe (born April 10, 1968 – died January 8, 1996) was a journalist and photojournalist from Turkey. He was known for his work reporting the news. Metin Göktepe died while he was being held by the police in Istanbul on January 8, 1996. His death led to important discussions about human rights.
Metin Göktepe's Life Story
Metin Göktepe was born on April 10, 1968, in a village called Çipil in Gürün, Sivas. His family was Kurdish. He was the seventh of many children in his family.
He started primary school in Sivas. In 1979, when he was 11, his family moved to Istanbul. There, he finished his primary and secondary school studies in 1986.
Education and Early Career
In 1989, Metin began studying Public Finance at Istanbul University. This is a type of economics that looks at how governments manage money. During his time at university, he became interested in politics. His older sister and brother, along with student groups, helped him learn about these topics.
Before he even finished university, Metin started his career in journalism. In 1992, he began working for a magazine called Gerçek, which means "The Truth". Later, in 1995, he also started working as a reporter for Evrensel. This was a newspaper that shared ideas about social justice and workers' rights.
