Metis Island (which is ostrov Metis in Bulgarian) is a rocky island located in Antarctica. It is about 820 meters (2,690 feet) long from east to west and 140 meters (460 feet) wide. The island covers an area of 8.4 hectares, which is about the size of 12 football fields.
Metis Island is separated from the west coast of Lavoisier Island by a passage that is 540 meters (1,770 feet) wide. It is part of the Biscoe Islands group.
The island gets its name from Metis, a very wise goddess in Greek mythology. She was known for her deep thoughts and cleverness.

It is located about 6.8 kilometers (4.2 miles) south-southwest of a place called Newburgh Point. It is also about 12.35 kilometers (7.67 miles) northeast of Zagrade Point, which is on Krogh Island.
