How Did Metro-link Bus Lines Start?
Metro-link Bus Lines began in November 1954. A family called the Oliveri family started it. They first called their business Oliveri Transport Service. They bought a bus route that went from Liverpool station to Green Valley.
In November 1988, their company joined with another bus company. This other company was called Ingleburn Bus Service. The Oliveri family also owned this company. In July 1989, both companies changed their names. They became known as Metro-link Bus Lines. However, in September 1993, the businesses separated again.
Changes in Bus Services
From 2005, Metro-link's services were part of a bigger system. This system was called Sydney Bus Region 3. In October 2013, another company took over these services. This company was Transit Systems Sydney. Transit Systems started running the routes that Metro-link used to operate.
Transit Systems also rented Metro-link's main bus depot. This depot is in Green Valley and opened in December 2010. After this, Metro-link worked as a charter company. They operated from a different depot in Ingleburn. Later, Metro-link moved back to the Green Valley depot.
For many years, from the 1970s to the early 1990s, Metro-link also had a special coach service. This service was for charter trips and was called Relaxaway Tours.
What Kind of Buses Does Metro-link Use?
As of May 2014, Metro-link had a fleet of 15 buses. A "fleet" is a group of vehicles owned by a company. For a long time, they bought buses from a company called Leyland. Today, their fleet includes Leyland Tiger buses and Volvo buses. In the mid-1980s, they bought three Volvo B10M coaches. These were for their Relaxaway Tours division.
Bus Colors and Designs
For many years, Metro-link buses were turquoise and red. In 1994, they changed their bus colors. The buses are now white with two shades of green and red. The special Relaxaway Tours coaches had a different look. They were painted in yellow and white colors.
