Meulles facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Meulles was a small commune (which is like a local town or village area) located in the northwest of France. It was part of the Calvados department in the region of Basse-Normandie. On 1 January 2016, Meulles joined with other nearby communes to form a larger new commune called Livarot-Pays-d'Auge.

What is a Commune?

A commune in France is the smallest area of local government. Think of it as a town or village and the land around it, all managed by a local council. There are thousands of communes across France, each with its own mayor and local services. They help organize things like schools, roads, and local events for the people living there.

Where Was Meulles Located?

Meulles was situated in the beautiful region of Basse-Normandie. This area is known for its green countryside, dairy farms, and rich history. Calvados, the department Meulles belonged to, is famous for its apple orchards and the apple brandy also called Calvados. The region is in the northwest of France, not far from the English Channel.

Why Did Meulles Merge?

Communes sometimes merge to become larger. This often happens to help them manage resources better and provide more services to their residents. By combining, smaller communes like Meulles can share costs and work together more efficiently. This is why Meulles became part of the new commune of Livarot-Pays-d'Auge in 2016.
