Early Life and Musical Journey

Miúcha was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She came from a very musical family. Her father was a historian, and her brother was the famous singer and composer Chico Buarque. Her sisters, Ana de Hollanda and Cristina Buarque, were also singers.

When Miúcha was eight years old, her family moved to São Paulo. As a child, she loved to sing. She even formed a vocal group with her siblings, including Chico. This early start helped her develop her musical skills.

In 1960, Miúcha moved to Paris, France. There, she studied Art History at the École du Louvre. Even while studying art, her passion for music continued to grow.

Becoming a Professional Singer

Miúcha began her professional singing career in 1975. Her first recording was on an album called The Best of Two Worlds. She sang alongside famous musicians like João Gilberto and Stan Getz. This was a big step for her.

After this, Miúcha worked with another legendary Brazilian artist, Tom Jobim. They recorded two albums together in 1977 and 1979. These albums helped her become even more well-known.

Miúcha also joined a special music show. It featured Tom Jobim, Vinícius de Moraes, and Toquinho. The show was a huge success in Rio de Janeiro. It then traveled to other countries in South America and Europe. A live album of this show, Tom, Vinícius, Toquinho e Miúcha, was recorded in 1977.

Family and Later Life

In 1963, Miúcha traveled to Europe. In Paris, she met the Chilean singer Violeta Parra. Through Violeta, she met the famous Brazilian singer João Gilberto. Miúcha and João Gilberto got married in 1965. They had a daughter named Bebel Gilberto in 1966, who also became a well-known singer.
