Michael Austin "Mic" Murphy (born January 9, 1958) is an American musician. He is best known as the lead singer of The System, a popular R&B duo from the 1980s. The System had a huge hit song called "Don't Disturb This Groove" in 1987. It reached #4 on the US Pop charts and #1 on the R&B charts!

Mic Murphy's Musical Journey

Mic Murphy was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, but he grew up in Queens, New York. From a young age, he was very interested in music technology. He was one of the first musicians to use MIDI, which helps electronic instruments talk to each other.

In the early 1980s, Mic worked as a road manager for the band Kleeer. This is how he met David Frank, who would become his bandmate in The System. Mic and David quickly teamed up and made a big splash with their first album. Their song "You Are in My System" helped start a new trend of electronic pop music. In 1987, The System became super famous with their song "Don't Disturb This Groove."

Solo Music and Other Projects

After The System stopped making music together in 1989, Mic Murphy started his own solo career. In 1991, he released his first solo album called Touch. This album had a small hit song on the R&B charts called "Fit to Be Tied."

Later, in 2004, Mic worked with his writing partner Tim K on a remix of a song called "Blindsided" by Lucy Woodward. This remix became a #1 hit on the Billboard Club Play Chart! In 2007, Mic also sang on the album Domesticated by the group Home & Garden.
