Michael Austin "Mic" Murphy was born on January 9, 1958. He is an American musician, singer, and songwriter. Mic Murphy is best known as the lead singer of the popular 1980s music group, The System. This group was famous for its unique synth R&B sound.
Mic Murphy sang on The System's biggest hit song, "Don't Disturb This Groove." This song was a huge success in 1987. It reached number 4 on the US Pop charts and number 1 on the R&B charts.

Mic Murphy's Musical Journey
Mic Murphy was born in Raleigh, North Carolina. However, he moved to Queens, New York, when he was very young. From an early age, he was interested in music. He was one of the first musicians to use MIDI technology. MIDI helps electronic musical instruments talk to each other.
In the early 1980s, Mic Murphy worked as a road manager for the band Kleeer. This job led him to meet David Frank. Mic and David decided to work together. They formed the band The System. Their first album made a big splash in the music world. The song "You Are in My System" helped start a new style of electronic pop music.
The System became very famous in 1987 with their hit song "Don't Disturb This Groove." This song showed off their unique sound.
After The System: Solo Work and Collaborations
The System stopped making music together in 1989. After that, Mic Murphy started his own solo music career. In 1991, he released his first solo album called Touch. One song from this album, "Fit to Be Tied," became a minor hit on the R&B charts.
Mic Murphy also worked with other artists. In 2004, he teamed up with his writing partner Tim K. They created a remix of Lucy Woodward's song "Blindsided." This remix became a number 1 hit on the Billboard Club Play Chart. In 2007, he was a singer on the album Domesticated by the group Home & Garden. This album was produced by Tim K and Timothy Shumaker.
