Michael started his career at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). He worked as a presenter for current affairs shows. These shows talk about important news and events happening right now. He also commented on Test cricket matches, which are long games of cricket. Later, he moved to London, England.

Reporting Big Events

In 1961, Michael Charlton became the very first presenter of Four Corners. This is a popular Australian TV show that looks deeply into current events. In 1963, he won the Australian Gold Logie award for his work. This award is like a big prize for people in Australian television.

From 1962 to 1976, Michael was a reporter and interviewer for Panorama, a famous BBC TV show. He reported live from America after the sad event of the Kennedy assassination.
