Michael Lawrence Douglas, born on March 13, 1948, is a former judge who served on the highest court in Nevada, called the Supreme Court of Nevada. He became a judge there in 2004 and finished his time on the court in 2019. When he was chosen, Mr. Douglas made history as the first African-American judge on Nevada's Supreme Court.

Michael Lawrence Douglas is a respected former judge. He was a Justice on the Supreme Court of Nevada. This is the highest court in the state. He also served as the Chief Justice of the court two times.
Early Life and Education
Michael Douglas was born in Los Angeles, California. He went to college at California State University, Long Beach. He earned his degree there in 1971. After that, he studied law at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. He finished law school in 1974.
A Judge for Nevada
Mr. Douglas was appointed to the Supreme Court of Nevada in April 2004. He served as a Justice for many years. His time on the court ended in January 2019. During his time on the court, he also served as the Chief Justice. He was Chief Justice from January to September 2011. He was also Chief Justice again from January 2018 to January 2019.
Making History
When Michael Douglas was appointed to the Nevada Supreme Court in 2004, it was a very important moment. He became the first African-American judge to serve on the state's highest court. This was a big step forward for diversity in the legal system.
Retirement
Michael Douglas retired from his role as a Justice on the Nevada Supreme Court in January 2019.
