Michael played for his local club, Templederry Kenyons. He also played for his county, Tipperary. He usually played as a forward, trying to score points and goals for his team.

Michael Murphy's Hurling Journey
Starting Out at Templederry
Michael Murphy began playing hurling when he was young. He joined the Templederry Kenyons club. He played in their junior teams before moving up to the main adult team. He even helped his club win a local championship. This was called the North Tipperary Intermediate Championship in 1979.
Playing for County Tipperary
Michael also played for his county, Tipperary. He first joined the Tipperary minor team. This is a team for players under 18 years old. In 1976, his minor team won the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship. This is a very big competition for young players.
After that, Michael moved up to the Tipperary under-21 team. He was very successful here. He helped his team win the All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship two years in a row. They won in 1979 and 1980. They even reached the final three times in a row!
Later, Michael played for the main Tipperary senior hurling team. He played in some league and championship games. He was part of the team that won the National Hurling League in 1979. This was another important win for him and his county.
