In 1829, Ryan moved to London, England. There, he became a member of the Royal College of Physicians, which is a very respected group of doctors. His Important Medical Books
Michael Ryan wrote several important books that helped other doctors.
Books on Legal Medicine
In 1831, Ryan published a book called Manual of Medical Jurisprudence. This book was based on his lectures. Medical jurisprudence is a special field where medical knowledge is used for legal purposes, like in court cases. For example, it helps explain medical facts in a crime investigation. An updated version of this book came out in 1836.
Books on Childbirth
Ryan also wrote a book called Manual of Midwifery. Midwifery is another word for obstetrics, which is the study of childbirth and caring for women during pregnancy. His book included new ways to talk about obstetric medicine and explained how to treat common health problems for women and children. A larger version of this book was published later, with many helpful pictures. He also released a separate book of pictures called Atlas of Obstetricity in 1840.
Other Contributions
From 1832 to 1838, Michael Ryan helped edit a medical newspaper called the London Medical and Surgical Journal. He also wrote a book about medicines called The Medico-Chirurgical Pharmacopœia. This book listed different medicines and how to use them. Ryan also helped update other medical books by famous doctors of his time.
